San Diego - Wireless firm Qualcomm's (NASD: QCOM) FLO TV mobile TV unit
on Wednesday introduced a handheld digital TV device, the FLO TV Personal Television,
which will sell for $249 with content subscriptions starting at $8.99 when
released later this fall. The device features a 3.5-inch touch-screen and
built-in stereo speakers; measures 4.4 inches by 3 inches by .5 inches; and
weighs just over 5 ounces.

- In a move to cut prices for consumers, Qualcomm (NASD: QCOM) plans to begin offering its
FLO TV mobile TV service direct to consumers later this year, The New York
Times' Bits blog reports. FLO TV, which offers live streams of some 20 TV
channels, is currently offered through carriers including AT&T and Verizon.
The carriers charge about $15 a month for the service, which Qualcomm told The Times
is too expensive. Qualcomm hopes to offer annual subscriptions that work out to
under $10 per month, along with $5 one-day passes, and $10 month-to-month
subscriptions.

companies backing mobile TV standards, have teamed with broadcasters to begin
offering a test of free mobile TV broadcasts in Washington, D.C., the
Associated Press reported. The local DC affiliates of CBS, NBC, PBS and Ion,
along with an independent station owned by Fox will be offered for free on
supported mobile devices beginning in late summer. Devices supporting the
