Review: The Britney Spears "Gimme More" Video on iTunes

Authored by Scott Goldberg on October 5, 2007 - 10:23am.
A Shot from Britney's New Video, by Alec ByrneThe more I listen to Britney’s Gimme More, the more I like it.  She lucked out; the song’s good, catchy, and would be a hit no matter who sang it.  You have to hand it to her: She manages to get her hands on more hit-making beats than the average pop princess.  And while the video is by no means the flop that her VMA performance was (after all, how bad can a video really be?) it’s certainly uninspiring on many levels:

This might be the Outfit for Spears new Gimme More VideoGandhi.  Winston Churchill.  Britney Spears.  Three of the most influential people of the last 100 years?  Yes.  But the latter will get something next Monday that the first two could never claim: a new video on MTV, the network that has taken the “M” out of Music, debuting on TRL.  “Gimme More,” which recently rose to the #1 spot on iTunes and shortly after its release became the #1 iTunes ringtone as well, will be one of the most scrutinized videos the network has ever featured.

Mock Anti-Piracy Ad Summarizes the State of the Issue

Authored by Scott Goldberg on September 11, 2007 - 6:25pm.
PirateThe importance that piracy plays in the news has waxed and waned over the years.  Of late the idea of piracy enforcement has become a laughable affair, as the battle between those who want to punish pirates versus those who want to steal music, television shows, and films has become ridiculous in the eyes of those who see it as a hopeless, and therefore humorous, affair.  One group seems to have summarized that sentiment in a video clip you can see here.  And having been viewed almost 400,000 times in the three days since its posting, it’s clear the public identifies as well.

Authored by Mark Hefflinger on November 19, 2004 - 4:50am.
Dohan, Ala. -- Movie Gallery, the nation's third-largest video store rental chain, announced on Friday that it has submitted its own bid to rival Blockbuster's offer for Hollywood Entertainment Corp., which owns the Hollywood Video rental chain. Alabama-based Movie Gallery, whose stores are prominent in rural and secondary markets, did not disclose how much it offered for Hollywood Entertainment, but it is believed that the company at least matched Blockbuster's $700 million bid for the company made earlier this week. A merger of Movie Gallery and Hollywood Entertainment would still figure as the second-largest rental chain, behind Blockbuster. Movie Gallery CEO Joe Malugen said he believes his company's proposal "presents almost no antitrust risk," adding that "Blockbuster's proposed acquisition would create a dominant player with significant competitive overlap in the vast majority of markets served by Blockbuster and Hollywood Entertainment."
