Mobile Content Firm Vindigo Shuts Down, Lays Off Staff

New York - Vindigo, a veteran mobile content distributor that was acquired by Japan's For-Side in 2004, has shut down and laid off more than 30 staff, Silicon Alley Insider reported, citing sources familiar with the company.

New York - Mobile entertainment publisher Zingy announced on Wednesday that it will shutter its ringtone and mobile personalization services division, and named Scott Jensen as its new CEO. The company will also now be known as Vindigo, which was the name of the firm that Zingy merged with in 2005. Jensen was previously senior vice president and head of business development for Zingy. "Our new strategic direction leverages our strengths as market leader in network-aware applications and refocuses us on the high-growth opportunities in mobile entertainment, which today are cross platform applications, mobile advertising, and casual games," said Jensen.

Ringtone Publisher Zingy Acquires Mobile Guide Firm Vindigo

New York -- Mobile entertainment publisher Zingy announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Vindigo, a provider of mobile city guides. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Both companies are subsidiaries of Japan-based For-Side.com, which recently announced plans for a public offering of shares in the U.S. New York-based Zingy's library of ringtones, wallpapers and other mobile content is distributed by nearly 30 wireless carriers worldwide. The addition of Vindigo will add city guides, photo sharing and information from providers including The New York Times and MapQuest to its offering.

Parent Co. of Zingy, MusiKube, Vindigo Plans U.S. Stock Offering

New York -- The Japanese parent company of U.S. ringtone firm Zingy, song ID service MusiKube and mobile city guide provider Vindigo is planning a U.S. stock offering on the Nasdaq, Forbes.com reported. Japanese mobile entertainment publisher For-side.com currently plans to sell shares in some or all of its U.S. subsidiaries either late this year or in early 2006. Forbes.com reported that "speculation among mobile content competitors is that the roll-up would be headed by Zingy CEO Fabrice Grinda.

Mobile Entertainment Publisher Vindigo Acquires WayMobile.com

San Francisco -- Mobile entertainment publisher Vindigo announced on Monday that it has acquired San Diego-based WayMobile.com, a developer and publisher of mobile content and commerce products. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. New York-based Vindigo will retain WayMobile.com's San Diego offices. WayMobile.com has developed applications including AwayAuction, which provides updates on eBay online auctions for cell phone users.

Japan's For-Side Acquires Mobile Entertainment Firm Vindigo for $36.5 Million

New York -- Mobile entertainment and applications publisher Vindigo Studios has announced that it was acquired earlier this month by Japanese mobile content provider For-Side.com, for $36.5 million in cash. Founded in 1999, New York-based Vindigo achieved profitability in early 2004; the company has developed 20 wireless applications with partners including MapQuest, The New York Times and The Sporting News. Following the merger, Vindigo will continue to operate as an independent entity led by existing management. Japan's For-Side has a market capitalization of $1.7 billion and operations in Japan, Korea, the U.K. and the U.S. The company said the acquisition will allow it to expand its product offering both in the U.S. and abroad.
