Washington - Washingtonpost.com said on Tuesday that it has launched a new shopping section, featuring local listings of new and used products and a national price comparison search powered by Become.com. Become.com, which has partnerships with more than 5,000 online retailers, said that it will add over 25 million products to the section.

WashingtonPost.com Invites Users to Fact Check Candidates' Statements

Washington - Washingtonpost.com said on Wednesday that it has launched a new interactive feature that will examine controversial claims and statements made by presidential candidates involving important national issues. The weekly feature, called "FactChecker," will post topics, then invite readers to help uncover and verify the facts behind candidates' positions and statements. The Post also said that it plans to make "FactChecker" available as a widget for users to add to personalized web pages.

Somerville, Mass. - Washingtonpost.com has launched a new technology reviews channel with Somerville-based Reviewed.com, a publisher of consumer products reviews. Featured on washingtonpost.com's technology section, the new channel includes hands-on reviews with scientific, standardized testing, analysis and information from Reviewed.com's editors.

Washingtonpost.com Goes Hyperlocal with Launch of LoudounExtra.com

Washington - Washingtonpost.com on Monday launched LoudounExtra.com, a new site featuring community-level news and events focused on Loudoun County, Virginia. Geared toward local residents, businesses and organizations, the site signals the Post's entry into the market for hyperlocal content, just as Vienna-based Backfence, which ran 13 hyperlocal sites in the DC, San Francisco and Chicago areas, has decided to shutter its operations. The site makes use of user-generated content, including photos and video, to enhance traditional reporting.

Washingtonpost.com Launches High-Definition Video Podcasts

Washington - Washingtonpost.com on Tuesday announced the launch of a line of high-definition podcasts, which the news organization will offer for download on iTunes and from its own website. The HD news videos, coded to play in 720p, include documentaries from Emmy Award-winning journalists Ben De La Cruz and Travis Fox, as well as ongoing presidential campaign coverage.

San Francisco - Blinkx, a searchable index of Web video, announced on Monday an agreement to automatically index and add hundreds of hours of original content from Washingtonpost.com to its index.

Washingtonpost.com Launches Archive of Congressional Voting Records

Arlington, Va. - Washingtonpost.com, the web site of The Washington Post, said that it has launched a new online tool that allows users to search the full voting records of Congress from 1991 through this year. The daily updated tool also offers the ability to download RSS feeds for each member of Congress to track individual votes as they are recorded.
