Bidders Line Up to Acquire the Weather Channel from Landmark

New York - Several bidders appear to be in contention to buy the Weather Channel cable network form owner Landmark Communications, including Time Warner (NYSE: TWX) and a partnership between private equity firm Blackstone Group and NBC Universal (NYSE: GE), Reuters reported on Friday.

New York - Media company Landmark Communications is putting its Weather Channel TV network and website up for sale, and could draw more than $5 billion at auction, The New York Times reported, citing people briefed on the auction. Suitors reportedly include NBC, News Corp. and Comcast.

EA, Weather Channel to Provide Live Weather Conditions on Football Game

Redwood City, CA - In what's believed to be an industry first, Redwood City-based game developer and publisher Electronic Arts (EA) said that it has teamed with The Weather Channel to offer real-time weather conditions and updates in its newly released NCAA Football 08 game. The latest version of the popular college football game will use information from The Weather Channel Interactive (TWCI) -- transmitted through the Internet -- to reflect accurate, real-time weather conditions at NCAA stadiums.

Weather Channel Debuts Broadband Site for Outdoor Sports

Atlanta - The Weather Channel announced on Thursday the launch of "Epic," a broadband site featuring video that "highlights the impact of weather on surfing, snow-skiing, mountain biking, whitewater rafting and sailing." The site is a companion property of Epic Conditions, a new program debuting in March on The Weather Channel.

Weather Channel Interactive Debuts Global Warming Broadband Channel

Atlanta - The Weather Channel Interactive on Wednesday announced the launch of its first broadband channel, "One Degree," which focuses on creating a national dialogue on global warming. The site will offer a combination of original and network content, including regular guest blogs from influential scientists, authors and educators.

Weather Channel Online Games Incorporate Real-Time Weather Data

Atlanta - The Weather Channel Interactive said on Thursday that it has partnered with online game developer Skyworks Technologies, to launch two new online games on Weather.com that incorporate real-time weather data. The golf and driving games let users pick the time and location anywhere in the U.S. they would like to play, and real-time weather data is then used to create a realistic weather environment for gameplay.
