Korea's Webzen Launches Beta of "Huxley" Multiplayer Game

Seoul, South Korea - Korean multiplayer game developer Webzen said on Friday that it has begun a closed beta test of its "Huxley," its forthcoming first-person shooter title. Webzen's other titles include "MU Online," which boasts more than 56 million registered users.

Korea's Webzen Taps The9 to Publish "Huxley" Online Game in China

Seoul, South Korea - Korean online game developer Webzen announced on Tuesday an agreement with The9, to publish its massively multiplayer game "Huxley" in China. Webzen expects to gain an estimated $35 million from the deal, which it says is the largest for a Korean game developer for a single game in a single country. "Huxley" is slated to launch in Korea later this year; no launch date for China was announced.

Online Game Developer Red 5 Studios Raises $18.5 Million

Aliso Viejo, Calif.-- Independent game developer Red 5 Studios announced on Tuesday that it has raised $18.5 million in its first round of venture capital financing. Benchmark Capital and Sierra Ventures co-led the investment in Red 5, which was formed in September 2005 by members of the team that created Blizzard Entertainment's "World of Warcraft."

Los Angeles - Korean online game developer Webzen on Wednesday announced the roster of titles it will preview at next month's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles. The company will bring its massively multiplayer PC titles "Soul of the Ultimate Nation" and "Project Wiki," in addition to "Huxley," a multiplayer game that will be available both for the PC and Xbox 360. The company recently established North American operations in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles - Korean online game publisher Webzen announced on Wednesday that it has named Cindy Armstrong as CEO of its U.S. subsidiary, Webzen America. Previously, Armstrong was vice president of business development at Sony Online Entertainment, and has also worked at Nintendo of America and Activision. Webzen's massively multiplayer online games include "MU Online" and "Soul of the Ultimate Nation"; the company is also developing online titles for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Korea's Webzen to Distribute Online Game from Red 5 Studios

Seoul, South Korea - Korean online games firm Webzen said on Tuesday that it has signed an agreement to publish an as yet undisclosed massively multiplayer online game developed by Red 5 Studios. California-based Red 5 was founded by former members of Blizzard Entertainment, which developed "World of Warcraft" and "Diablo II."

K2 Network in $2 Million Deal to Host Webzen's "MU" Online Game

Seoul, Korea - Korean online game publisher Webzen announced on Thursday that it has signed an agreement with Irvine, Calif.-based game publisher K2 Network, to operate its "MU" massively multiplayer online roleplaying game in the U.S. and Europe. The $2 million licensing agreement gives K2 rights to operate the game for the next three years; "MU" is slated to launch in the U.S. and Europe in early 2006.
