Widevine Technologies Joins Digital Watermarking Alliance

Los Angeles - The Digital Watermarking Alliance, a trade group of companies with commercial digital watermarking technologies that can identify and protect copyrighted works, announced on Thursday that Widevine Technologies has joined the organization. Seattle-based Widevine provides forensic watermarking technologies for telco, Internet, mobile, cable and satellite providers. Formed in September 2006, the Digital Watermarking Alliance's membership also includes Cinea, Digimarc, Philips, Thomson, Verance and Verimatrix.

Widevine Is Granted New Copy-Protection Tech Patent

Seattle, WA - Widevine Technologies announced on Wednesday that it has been granted a new patent for its copy-protection technologies. The patent (U.S. 7,150,045) covers technology that monitors, detects and responds to piracy within digital consumer devices at a point where content is unprotected -- usually after it is decrypted by a conditional access or digital rights management system.

Motorola, Scientific-Atlanta to Use Widevine Watermarking on Set-tops

Seattle - Widevine Technologies, a developer of copy-protection technology for digital broadcast and video-on-demand services, announced on Tuesday that its Mensor digital rights management technology has been integrated into consumer electronics devices from Motorola, Scientific-Atlanta and Amino Communications. Mensor, which includes Running Marks watermarking technology from Cinea, will allow content providers to trace video distributed through the companies' set-top boxes back to the owner should it be pirated or leaked onto the Internet.

Digital Video Content Security Firm Widevine Raises $16 Million

Seattle - Widevine Technologies, a provider of content security technologies for digital broadcast and video-on-demand content, announced on Wednesday that it has raised $16 million in its third round of venture capital financing. The round included investments from Cisco Systems and Telus, as well as previous investors VantagePoint, Bear Stearns Constellation Ventures, Pacesetter Capital and Phoenix Partners. Seattle-based Widevine currently counts over 90 telco, cable, satellite and Internet service operator customers. The company will use the funds to strengthen its product and intellectual property portfolios.
