Platinum Studios in Talks to Acquire Free E-book Firm WOWIO

Los Angeles - Platinum Studios, a company that controls a library of more than 5,600 comic book characters that it adapts for various media, announced on Monday that it is in talks to acquire WOWIO, a digital distributor of digital books and comics.

Jim Samples, General Manager of Cartoon Network, Friday resigned under pressure following a promotional fiasco that snarled traffic in Boston and cost parent Turner Broadcasting $2 million to settle. A Turner spokeswoman declined to comment on whether Samples was forced to resign. Until a new head of the network is announced, the senior team members will report directly to Mark Lazarus, President of Turner Entertainment Group.

WOWIO Launches Ad-Supported Free E-book Store

York, Penn. - WOWIO on Tuesday announced the launch of its online bookstore, which will offer free e-books supported by advertising. Founded by author William Lidwell, Pennsylvania-based WOWIO has contracted with numerous publishers to offer free e-books that use targeted, full-page, full-color ads dynamically inserted into the material to compensate publishers.
