Yahoo Music Debuts Free iPhone Application

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) Music has launched its own free iPhone application, providing users with 150 Yahoo Music streaming stations, in addition to over 100 stations from CBS Radio, which developed the application. Users will be able to link through to purchase songs heard from Apple's iTunes Store.

New York - A new study of brand awareness among fee-based digital music services found that Apple's iTunes gained significantly in 2006, along with MySpace and Yahoo Music, while Napster saw some erosion in the minds of consumers.

Yahoo Music announced Ian Rogers as General Manager replacing David Goldberg, the former VP, and Robert Roback, the former General Manager, who resigned last week for personal reasons.

David Goldberg and Robert Roback, Vice Presidents and General Managers of Yahoo Music, have resigned. The pair had joined Yahoo in 2001 when their company they had founded, Launch Media, was acquired by the Internet portal. In separate prepared statements released by Yahoo, Goldberg and Roback stated that they were stepping down for personal reasons. Vince Broady, Head of Entertainment and Games at Yahoo, will oversee Yahoo music.

Motorola's Music Phones to Support Windows Media, Yahoo Music

Barcelona - Motorola announced on Monday that it plans to integrate Microsoft's Windows Media Audio (WMA) on a number of its music-playing cell phones. The collaboration will enable the phones to connect to Windows-based PCs to sync music from PC to phone, and also to play songs from Windows Media-based digital music subscription services and online music stores. Motorola said it will begin selling Windows Media-based music phones in the second half of 2006, and plans to enable over-the-air delivery in 2007. Separately, Motorola said that some of its phones will enable Yahoo Music users to drag-and-drop podcasts from their PCs directly onto their mobile phones through the Yahoo Music Engine. Over-the-air delivery of podcast downloads is also planned in the future.
