Miami - Zed, a European mobile content distributor, announced on Wednesday that it has launched operations in the U.S. The company was founded in Spain in 1996 as LaNetro, and later assumed the Zed name in 2004 when it acquired the mobile content distribution unit of the same name from TeliaSonera. Zed distributes mobile content through 40 wireless carriers with a combined 900 million subscribers, and said its 2004 revenues from ringtones, graphics, games and other services was $165 million.

Madrid -- Wisdom Entertainment, an interactive media group based in Spain, announced that it has completed the acquisition of Sonera Zed Ltd. from TeliaSonera, a Swedish-Finnish telecommunications operator, for $36.7 million. Zed is an independent aggregator and reseller of digital content to mobile phone users. Composed of eight companies in the interactive multimedia entertainment industry, Wisdom Entertainment is involved in videogame development and distribution, computer-animated film production and mobile content development and distribution. Wisdom said that investors Apax Partners, iNova Capital and the Perez Dolset family helped finance the acquisition. In April, Apax Partners led a 39-million-euro ($48 million) investment in the group.

Madrid -- Scandinavian wireless carrier TeliaSonera announced that it has agreed to sell its Sonera Zed unit to Wisdom Entertainment, a Spanish interactive media firm, for $37 million. Zed is a reseller of digital content for mobile phones in Finland, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, the Philippines and the U.K. through direct relationship with 23 mobile network operators. The firm also has operations in Austria, Ireland and Switzerland through connectivity partners. Wisdom Entertainment is involved in video game development and distribution, computer-animated film production and mobile content development and distribution. The deal has yet to be approved by the German competition watchdog, whose decision is expected by mid September, TeliaSonera said.
