Arrested Development's Tony Hale on NBC's CTRLAuthored by Jay Baage on October 20, 2009 - 1:38pm.
DMW Vlog: In anticipation of our upcoming Future of Television Forum East on Nov. 18-19, I wanted to share this exclusive interview with Tony Hale (Arrested Development), the star of Ctrl, a comedy web series on NBC.com that ran in July and August. It is the first stand-alone web series launched by a major television network about an office-working, self-confidence lacking nerd with a magical keyboard. In this interview, Tony Hale explains what was compelling to him working with a web series and what's going on with the Arrested Development movie that is in the works. You can sample an episode of the show CTRL below. Buzz Watch: Digital Music Forum West at the Hollywood RooseveltAuthored by Jay Baage on October 8, 2009 - 6:28am.
Analysis: Facebook is NOT a Social Media CompanyAuthored by Jay Baage on September 20, 2009 - 4:07pm.
Last week I attended the Internet Marketing
Conference in Vancouver, Canada. I figured that I would share some notes
from there regarding Social Media Marketing in particular, since that is the field of
marketing that, in my opinion, is evolving the fastest. First there is the
issue of terminology. Everyone, including myself, tend to talk about social
media marketing, but I guess one takeaway from the conference is that we're
really talking about social marketing. As Louise Clements, Director of Sales,
Facebook Canada points out, Facebook is NOT a media company.

Buzz Watch: Michael Jackson and The Eternal MoonwalkAuthored by Jay Baage on July 7, 2009 - 11:23am.
The first audience figures are in for Michael Jackson’s memorial service. CNN.com’s live stream of the event drew at least 9.7 million views (through 5pm ET), with a maximum of 781,000 concurrent viewers, according to Mashable, making it one of the biggest online video events so far, shy of President Obama’s inauguration 13.9 million live streams. But DMW contributor Rohit Bhargava pointed me in the direction of another online video tribute to The King of Pop which in my opinion is even more touching and personal than the Staples Center Memorial and it really shows you how big and global his fanbase really is in a clever way. Check it out here.

Buzz Watch: Southwest Airlines’ Rapping Flight AttendantAuthored by Jay Baage on May 20, 2009 - 10:27am.
I like Southwest Airlines. The video embedded above reinforces that feeling. In it, Southwest Airlines’ Rapping Flight Attendant, David Holmes, explains Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in a “GAAP Rap” at the 2009 Shareholder’s Meeting held at the Company’s Dallas headquarters today. While the audience might not get it, I bet YouTubers will. Southwest is a good example of a company that understands how to use social media. BTW I found out about this video through their Twitter feed. Follow SouthwestAir. Nolan Bushnell @ LA Games: The Bloom is Off the Rose for Physical MediaAuthored by Jay Baage on May 15, 2009 - 11:22am.
Los Angeles – In the exclusive DMW video interview from the LA Games Conference 2009, we speak to Nolan Bushnell, one of the founding fathers of the video game industry, perhaps most famous for starting Atari, Inc. He gives his views of the current state of the games industry and where he sees the business heading (away from the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii as well as "plastic discs" in general): “The bloom is off the rose for physical media.” He also talks about one of his biggest regrets - turning down an offer from Steve Jobs to buy a third of Apple Computer for $50,000. tags: Games | Deals | Mobile | Marketing | Investing | Events | Nolan Bushnell | LA Games Conference |
