Reston, Va. - Online video viewing in the U.S. was down 2.5% in January, to 32.4 billion views, according to a report from Internet audience measurement firm comScore. The number of unique viewers also fell to 173.4 million, from 177.9 million in December.

Yahoo Sports Most-visited Winter Olympics Site

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) said on Friday that Yahoo Sports was the most visited online destination in the U.S. for the recent  Winter Olympics, according to figures from comScore. The site attracted 32 million unique visitors from Feb. 12-28, compared with 19 million each for NBCOlympics.com and ESPN. Yahoo said that visitors spent 314 million total minutes on the site during the games.

Report: Mobile Use of Facebook, Twitter Surges Over Past Year

Report: Google Search Share Down, Bing Up in January

Reston, Va. - The monthly analysis of the U.S. search market for January by comScore, the Internet measurement firm, shows that Google accounted for 65.4% of the search market share, down 0.3% for the month. Microsoft's Bing had 11.3% market share, up 0.6 percentage points from December, while Yahoo lost 0.3% share and now holds 17% of the U.S. search market.

Report: Online Holiday Spending Rose 4% in 2009

Reston, Va. - Americans spent $29.1 billion online this past holiday season, a 4% increase from the prior year, according to new figures from market research firm comScore. "The 2009 online holiday shopping season was a positive one as its growth rate slightly surpassed our forecast and returned to solidly positive rates after nearly a full year of marginally negative growth," said Gian Fulgoni, comScore's chairman.

Reston, Va. - U.S. online spending on "Cyber Monday," the first day back at work after the Thanksgiving holiday, rose 5% from a year ago to $887 million, matching the heaviest online spending day on record, according to Internet audience measurement firm comScore. The firm said that the growth was driven primarily by a 6% increase in the number of buyers, reflecting consumers' increasing familiarity and comfort with online buying.

Redmond, Wash. - Microsoft's (NASD: MSFT) Massive in-game advertising network announced on Thursday that it has partnered with Internet audience measurement firm comScore, to measure the effectiveness of in-game ads. The companies will seek to find out the degree to which in-game ads motivate gamers to visit websites; conduct brand-related searches; and engage in other actions that had previously gone unmeasured. Preliminary research indicates that people exposed to in-game ads registered a 280% increase in visits to a TV channel's website, compared with those not exposed to the ads.
