a service that distributes independent artists' tracks to digital retailers
like iTunes, on Friday launched a new service that will create and distribute
ringtones for sale on the iTunes iPhone ringtone store. TuneCore customers can
edit their own music into 5 to 30-second .wav clips and upload the clips to
TuneCore, which in turn will distribute the clips as ringtones across iTunes
stores in the U.S., Canada, Japan,
EU, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico
and the U.K.

- Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Games on Tuesday launched a public beta test of its new Rock
Band Network Store, which will let any band or user upload their own original
songs and create versions playable in the music karaoke game, The Wall Street
Journal reported. The Journal noted that a good degree of technical skills
would be required for most bands to utilize the feature, and that TuneCore is
offering a rate of $999 per song. That fee includes creation and mixing of
individual track "stems" for various instruments; note-charting; the
addition of "lighting, camera and animation cues" for the game; and
final submission to the Rock Band Network Store.

- TuneCore, a provider of low-cost digital music distribution services for
labels and artists, announced that it has forged a deal with News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS)
MySpace, to begin delivering its catalog for sale on the MySpace Music
platform. Seattle-based TuneCore says it has distributed tens of thousands of
albums and millions of songs to iTunes and other digital stores since its
launch in 2006, and currently distributes between 200 and 300 new songs, albums,
and video releases daily.

- Major record label Universal Music Group on Wednesday announced a deal with
TuneCore, a provider of flat-fee digital music distribution for artists to
services like iTunes and eMusic, to create Universal-branded portals where
unsigned artists can have their music heard by A&R executives from
Universal labels. Three such branded sites have been created, for Interscope
Geffen A&M, Island Def Jam and Universal Motown. In addition to
distribution to iTunes via TuneCore, artists submitting through the
Universal-branded sites will receive "potential access to such coveted
major label services as worldwide distribution and marketing."

New York - TuneCore, a digital music distribution service that provides artists with low-cost distribution through iTunes and other retailers, has announced that it will now offer a $10 flat-rate fee for distribution of songs to seven retailers. The company lets artists retain all rights as well as 100% of the revenues it receives back from retailers -- which equates to about 62 cents per track on iTunes, according to the Wall Street Journal.
