HBO Testing Streaming Film, TV Service for Subscribers

New York - Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) HBO is preparing to launch an online streaming service for cable, satellite and telco TV service subscribers to its pay-TV channels, The New York Times reported. The HBO GO service has launched in beta for Comcast and Verizon FiOS TV subscribers; HBO counts about 35 million subscribers overall.

HBO Plans Series on Female Showbiz Blogger; Nikki Finke?

Los Angeles - Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) HBO has announced plans to develop a series about "a powerful female online showbiz journalist with a no-holds barred style," leading many to speculate the subject is Nikki Finke, the one-time LA Weekly columnist who started her own successful blog before being hired by Mail.com Media Corp. to run Deadline.com. Gawker contacted Finke for comment, who said she would be posting on the news on her own site shortly. The Hollywood Reporter, meanwhile, said HBO did not obtain Finke's life rights before moving forward with the project, and does not plan to work with her on the show.

Liberty Names Former HBO Head Albrecht as Starz CEO

Englewood, Colo. - Liberty Media (NASD: LINTA) announced on Tuesday that it has named former HBO (NYSE: TWX) chairman and CEO Chris Albrecht as the new president and CEO of its Starz pay-TV programming unit. Robert B. Clasen is set to retire as chairman and CEO of Starz at the end of the year. Albrecht spent over 20 years at HBO, before resigning in 2007 shortly after being arrested and charged with assaulting a girlfriend.

Time Warner Prepping "TV Everywhere" for Pay-TV Subscribers

New York - Media conglomerate Time Warner (NYSE: TWX) is in talks with a number of fellow content providers, as well as cable, satellite and telecom providers, on a new service that would provide free, on-demand Web access for subscribers to premium pay-TV content, AdAge.com reported. "If you want to watch your favorite TV network or shows through broadband on any device -- PCs or mobile -- you can do it as long as you subscribe to any multichannel provider," Time Warner CEO Jeffrey Bewkes told AdAge.

Time Warner, Adobe to Collaborate on Web Video

San Francisco - Adobe Systems (NASD: ADBE) said on Tuesday that it has partnered with Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) TBS, Warner Bros. Entertainment, and HBO to collaborate on next-generation video and implement Adobe's Flash video platform on Time Warner sites. The companies also plan to work together "to accelerate the development of digital rights management for the Web and desktop, and metadata and audience measurement solutions to improve the discovery and monetization of content."

HBO to Offer "Flight of the Conchords" Songs on iTunes

Los Angeles - HBO will offer songs featured in each episode from the new season of its comedy "Flight of the Conchords" for purchase and download on iTunes the day after each episode airs, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fans who pre-order a 15-track album featuring songs from the new season from SubPop.com will also receive the new episode tracks each week.

The first two seasons of the series were made available today, while the third and fourth seasons will be added in consecutive weeks before the broadcast premiere of the fifth season on Sept. 7.

Seattle - Amazon.com's (NASD: AMZN) CreateSpace on-demand DVD distribution service said on Monday that it has partnered with Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) HBO Video to offer a selection of HBO and Cinemax documentaries on the service. Films included in the offering, to include "When I Knew" and "Hard Times at Douglass High: A No Child Left Behind Report Card," will also be the first created through an on-demand service to be encrypted by the industry's Content Scramble System (CSS) copy protection technology.

New York - Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) HBO cable TV network plans to offer its subscribers free access to some of its movies and original programming online, beginning with a pilot set to launch this week in Wisconsin, The New York Times reported. The offering will require users to first download an application for viewing the content, which will expire in four weeks and will not be transferable to portable devices, at least initially.

David Chase, Creator of The SopranosDavid Chase, creator of HBO’s The Sopranos, was unreachable following the series’ final episode last spring, and for good reason: No matter your opinion of the ending, good or bad, you had strong words.  Some felt duped by the blackout ending, as if their cable had frozen or failed; others were betrayed that eight years of development could result in such an inconclusive conclusion; and others analyzed the artistic merits from head to toe, seeing it as the perfect finish to the perfect show.

Mike Nifong, former Durham, NC District AttorneyHBO has acquired the rights to the book "Until Proven Innocent: Political Correctness and the Shameful Injustices of the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case," written by Stuart Taylor Jr. and K.C. Johnson.  The book, about the prosecution of three Duke University lacrosse players for the gang rape of a stripper at a team party, was published by Thomas Dunne Books.
