San Jose, Calif. - Networking equipment maker Cisco Systems on Friday announced its first foray into the social networking space, with its acquisition of Five Across, a developer of technology that lets companies augment their websites to add social networking and user-generated content functionality.

Milpitas, Calif. – IP Unity, a Milpitas, Calif.-based maker of media servers, application servers and multimedia applications, said on Wednesday that it has completed its acquisition of Atlanta-based Glenayre Messaging, creating one of the market's largest independent suppliers of rich media messaging systems and advanced IP multimedia systems to carriers. The deal was originally announced in mid-December. Financial terms were not disclosed.
